Death Is The End

From Twitter

America may be alone in tolerating so many gun deaths but having an acceptable level of avoidable fatalities is common to all countries.

Last Saturday 11 people were killed when a plane crashed on the A27. The other 30 who died on UK roads that week did so largely without comment.

All societies do it with what and to what extent based partly on shock value but mainly on how they inconvenience us or cost. Be it construction workers building stadiums for the Qatar World Cup, immigrants drowning in the Mediterranean, the poor or disabled brought to suicide by lack of government support.

Yes there’s more to it but though the means may be more shocking there isn’t such a leap in the reasoning behind accepting one mass shooting a day and many other avoidable deaths.

Here endeth the lesson. We will now sing hymn 327.
